What is the best advice you can give someone who is juggling a job and motherhood?
The best advice I can give, is to get organized, find a routine, and join a support group with a sense of humor!
For me, being a new parent means accepting I am new at this and there is a learning curve to motherhood. It will be a struggle in the beginning to balance family, work and friends; but, as time goes on you prioritize what is important to you. The family and friends that understand and want what is best for your family and your career stick around.
I absolutely love my current job as a PRN relief pharmacist which allows me family- work balance. My hours vary by week, which at this time in my life is great because it allows me to enjoy motherhood as much as I can and still have a career as a pharmacist.
A wonderful friend of mine who I very much respect professionally and is a fantastic wife and mother of three told me repeatedly: find a job that allows you to put your family life first. It took me years but I say is was worth every moment searching to be with a company that supports work-life balance.
Please tell us about your lovely one year old daughter Baby E.
Baby Elizabeth is such an amazing blessing in my life! It has been just over a year since arrived she early and I still can’t believe I am a mom!
I love this little gal- she has a sense of humor that can bring you to tears and that she amazes me every day. She will surprise us with little acts of kindness towards others. As little as she is, she will try to help relatives carry their cane, or do a chore; but what always warms my heart is when I see her do a small act of kindness.
Someone asked me what I wanted my child to be when she grows up, and what I hope for our daughter is to be a kind person and to love to learn. I think that if she is not afraid to learn and adapt she will be able to do well in life and be happy. So any day that I see her learning or caring it makes me smile.
You started a mommy community with some of your friends. Can you tell us a little about it and how we can join too?
It’s a funny coincidence that multiple friends, acquaintances and co-workers were all getting pregnant or had just delivered when we got the news I was expecting! I very much admire my friends who also happen to be amazing moms. They were kind enough to be giving great advice and I thought a fb mom group would be a great place to share advice, ask questions and have some laughs in regards to motherhood; hence Motherboard was born.
*I’m also joined a few other Motherhood communities and I find they are a great place to get advice at all hours. Our group is private and based on referrals only because we do post personal pics of the kids and share personal information.
In your opinion, what are the top 5 products all new moms should have?
I love these questions:
- #5: a fabulous diaper bag! (with a Mom section just for you)
- #4: Pocket Nanny ( especially in the first three months, it’s a great way to keep track of feedings, sleep and meds)
- #3: Muslim blanket (extremely versatile from blocking the sun to keeping them warm)
- #2: Umbrella stroller (light, easy to quickly assemble)
- #1: Stroller fan ( in this Texas heat, it keeps me and the baby cool)
You host great parties, what are some of your go to quick and simple recipes for throwing a last minute party?
Well, thank you, the hubby and I try our best to host some good time. My favorite quick and easy recipes I get from HEB, they are a life-saver!
- Cream Cheese and any sauce from Robert’s Reserve! My favorite at the moment is the Pineapple, Coconut, Mango Tequila Sauce (yes that is just one sauce!) they are great with the HEB vegetable crackers.
- Slice up some zucchini and squash, dip them in HEB Basting Oil before putting them on the grill- delish!
Passion/hobby: I am looking forward to teaching my daughter how to play the piano, tap dance and return an ace serve in tennis!
Work : Motherhood store is a great place to find cute tops post- baby. They have my favorite nursing tops in some of the best colors (turquoise), and are great for trying to pump at work.
Non-work: HEB and Macy’s/ duckie yellow (as Elizabeth would say)/ pink and of course tiffany blue/ a cute and slimming pair of capris as well as a pair of cute and comfy sandals ( with heels I’m only 5’2”)
Make up: Lancome
Hair: L’Oreal EverPure Sulfate Free shampoo and conditioners rock
Skincare: I had to completely change my routine, during pregnancy and post baby I experienced dry skin. Favorite fixes: Yes to Blueburries face wash and daily moisturizer, for additional hydration: Clarity Rx-Daily Dose of Water, feels fantastic!
Nails: Gel Shellac when I can
Fitness: Exercise: walking and working up to marathon. Baby Elizabeth and I did the LIFE Houston: A Walk to Feed Hungry Babies. We had fun training and look forward to it next year!
