We’re super excited to feature Tiffany Brown, User Experience Designer at Amuse – A Hearst Digital Agency and board member of Ad 2 Houston, as the newest #WomanofHouston. Tiffany received her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Advertising from University of Houston in 2014 and have since been giving back to her alma mater through student mentorship with her association with Ad 2 Houston. Tiffany is a proud mommy of two fur babies and loves to travel. We should also mention, we’ve been a fan of Tiffany’s wardrobe for some time now and have featured her look twice on Alinely. For those of us who are unfamiliar with the advertising industry, can you tell us what a User Experience Designer is and what your job entails?
Of course! User Experience Designers harmonize technology and the message to resonate with people on a rational and emotional level. We develop products (websites, apps, devices, etc.) so that people will be delighted in the way it works.
Day-to-day I solve problems in order to provide value to people who use the products while satisfying our client’s needs and goals. I work with project managers, researchers, copywriters, visual designers and developers to synthesize research into actionable insights.
Can you tell us about Ad 2 Houston and your role with them?
Ad 2 Houston is a great organization filled with advertising professionals who are looking to further their careers through networking, volunteering and giving back to the community through their yearly pro-bono non-profit campaign. I particularly find fulfillment through the mentorship opportunities with students from the University of Houston and other schools in the Houston area. The connections I made through Ad 2 Houston helped me get to know the right people for me to get my first job. I love to help students in the same way that other people helped me. I also serve on the board as Creative Director and produce all of the collateral for our events.
What is your go to outfit?
I have a slight obsession with Midi skirts. If I have a midi skirt with a button-down blouse and my nude flats, I am good to go. I feel like that outfit can always be perceived as dressing up, but without over doing it.
Can you tell us about your fur babies?
Ah! They are the best. I always name my dogs from the Peanuts Gang, so their names are Franklin and Schroeder. They are two Shih Tzus who both happen to have three legs. Franklin, we have had since he was a puppy, and later decided that he needed another furry friend to play with. We were looking online and happened to see Schroeder. On a whim, I went to the SPCA during my lunch break, and somehow came home with him that day.
Traveling for sure. It is extremely important to me to see everything the world has to offer, and experience other cultures. I have seen the majority of the continental United States and visited some of Europe. This summer I will get to explore Germany and Austria, and I am beyond excited.
Work: Jcrew, Madewell and Banana Republic are life. I definitely have a handful of go-to outfits so in the morning I don’t have to think. I just grab and go. I try to maintain that crazy invisible line of business casual, but always be ready for a client meeting just in case.
Non-work: Honestly, I don’t dress much differently than I do at work. If anything, I will take out the cardigan over my dress or throw in a bit more jeans. By the way, check out Madewell jeans. They will change your life.
Getting Ready in the morning: Oh man. Well, first I have to push the snooze button at least twice. Ok, maybe up to five times. The mornings are tough for me. I’ll catch up on the news or my favorite blogs, then make my way out of bed.
Make up: For me, it is Clinique all the way. I love love love their bright lipstick for the spring and their High ImpactTM mascara.
Hair: This depends how many times I pushed snooze. If I am up and ready to go, then I will take the time to fix my hair. Other days, it’s a low side ponytail. I have recently found Toni and Guy Wave Memorizer. It is so great! It helps maintain my hair’s shape without being crunchy and stays looking good all day.
Skincare: Same as make up, I have found that Clinique is my jam. I make it a point to use a Clinique SmartTM serum and a moisturizer every day.
Breakfast: Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I am always on the look out for some awesome pancakes. Some of my favorite restaurants are Dish Society, Tel-Wink Grill, Lola’s, and Gratifi Kitchen + Bar.
Lunch: Hmm. Some of my choices are probably a little lame, but they are quick and consistently decent enough for lunch. The line up is Relish Fine Foods, Fat Bao, Salata, annnndd Chick-fil-a. Don’t judge.
Dinner: One of the best things about Houston are all of the great food options, and dinner never disappoints. A few of my preferred places are El Tiempo ( the chicken fajitas with Barry sauce will change your life), Cavatore, Thai Gourmet, and Crisp.
Exercise Routine: Welp. I should be better on this one. I do love a good yoga class. For a while, I would work out through going to dance classes. During the week, I would take the adult night classes at the Houston Ballet. Then on Sunday evenings, I would take swing dance lessons with the Houston Swing Dance Society that were tons of fun!
Challenges: The industry I am in is always changing, and I have to stay current on industry standards. It can be quite challenging at times. However, this allows an excellent opportunity for me to continue to learn new things and grow as a UX Designer.
Rewards: I’m lucky to be in a company that has many mentors who continue to push me to be better at my job every day.
